Last year, after searching online for international sites, I made an order with feelunique.com. The site had some amazing products from the brands which are not so easily available in India, Burberry and By Terry being a couple. I ordered an eyeshadow quad from Burberry and received a mini size lipstick free due to a promotional offer. Burberry Lip Velvet Military Red is the one I received. After using and loving it for over a year, today I am ready to share my views about it.
Price and Product quantity:
3.5 gm of product retails for $35 or £ 26.00, but as I got a mini size lipstick for free the quantity of product I have is just 1 gm.

My take on Burberry Lip Velvet Military Red:
Packaging: Being a pricey product and as seen in the pictures on the internet, I expected a luxurious looking and beautifully packed lipstick, and this is exactly what I got. The lipstick I have is not a regular sized one, but the small size of the lipstick makes it even cuter. The lipstick has a metallic dark grey, square shaped packaging with Burberry written on the packaging.
The outer packaging as well as the bullet itself has a typical Burberry pattern on it. A label containing the name and weight of the lipstick is pasted on the base of the lipstick. The shade I have is Military Red which is supposed to be shade number 429, but the label I have on my lipstick shows the number to be 109. I am not sure about the reason but it might be a printing error due to mini size or something (at least this is what I am assuming).
Colour and Pigmentation: Burberry describes Military Red as a classic red lipstick and the brand is not wrong in saying that. Military red is a beautiful red colour lipstick which one can apply without thinking much. It is one of the most wearable red lipstick I have in my collection.
Military red has amazing pigmentation, but the formulation of the product is such that, it comes as not completely opaque. Tough Burberry describes these lipsticks as full coverage ones, but for me Military Red wasn’t completely full coverage, but was rather sheer coverage. One swipe of the lipstick imparts sufficient amount of colour. The lipstick can be layered but layering does not alter the lipstick colour much.
Texture: Burberry Lip Velvet Military Red is very soft and moisturising on the lips. Whenever I am in a hurry I directly apply this lipstick onto my lips without a lip balm and it does not make me feel uncomfortable.
Staying Power: The lipstick transfers on anything and every thing it touches, which reduces the staying power of the lipstick. It does not stay for long, it cannot stand a meal. But the lipstick is easy to reapply. When reapplied, it does not make the lips patchy, nor does it leaves any weird stains on the lips.
Overall for me, it is an amazing lipstick with a formula and colour that I would want to use on my lips every time I wear a lipstick. I have had this lipstick for over a year now and I still have tones of product left. It is not because of the large quantity of the product, it is because the lipstick has limited availability and I tend to use it less often fearing that I might not be able to get it again. But, now I am going to use it and finish the product before it expires!
Pros of Burberry Lip Velvet Military Red:
- Product is free of Sulfates and Phthalates
- Beautiful classic red colour
- Flatters most of the skin tones
- Feels very light and moisturising on the lips
- Luxurious packaging, which is travel friendly too
- Great pigmentation. One swipe is enough to get the desired colour (Keep in mind that the formula of the lipstick is not completely opaque)
- Love the design on the actual bullet
Cons of Burberry Lip Velvet Military Red:
- No so opaque (which I personally so not mind)
- Transferable and not so amazing staying power
- Not easily available in India

Would I buy this product again?
The product is pricey and not one of those long wearing ones, but I loved the lipstick and the formula so if I’ll get a chance I would definitely buy it again.
Do I recommend this?
Yes! If you can afford to splurge on a lipstick then this is a must try.
Rating: 4.5/5 (-0.5 for the cons, none of the cons matter too much for me)
I really wish this stayed a little longer, atleast for the price. Else, its a stunning shade. 💋
I’m one of those weird people who like sheer lipsticks. And this shade is super pretty.
Very pretty shade!!! I love matte over creamy textured lippies though..:-)
The shade is super pretty…
