Kerala was my last travel destination of 2017. I wanted to go to Kerala for almost 5 years, but every time I used to plan for Kerala, the plan used to get transformed to some other location. This time I was sure that I would not go anywhere else but Kerala. It was my first wedding anniversary and my parents 39th so we decided to celebrate both the occasions in Kerala.
We stayed in Kerala for 7 nights and 8 days and visited Kochi, Munnar, and Kovalam. Today’s post would be about my experience with Kochi along with some of my touristy pictures!
Kochi which is also known as Cochin is a city in Kerala state. You can get a direct flight from Delhi to Kochi which takes almost around 3 hours. We had a 3-night stay in Kochin and the hotel we opted was Holiday Inn. Considering the city, there was nothing to see for 3 nights, except the historic forts and other monuments but I really wanted to visit Allepy for the backwaters, which made me extend the stay to an extra night.
Unfortunately, our driver didn’t want to go out of the city and he cleverly fooled us and showed us the backwaters of Kochi instead of Allepy. Kerala is a beautiful state, full of greenery and abundance of oxygen, but as it is very close to the shore, it is extremely humid too.
In Kochi, we went to places like Hill Palace of Tripunithura, Kerala Folklore Museum, Kochi backwaters and some other smaller museums along with Kochi Beach/Marine drive which was surprisingly very polluted. We also went to the famous LuLu mall which was huge and aesthetically very pleasing (especially after the beach).
Shopping in Kochi:
Kochi does have many local markets, but due to our timings, and the days we visited, we were not able to explore any local market, instead, we did our little shopping from the Lulu mall. My mom wanted to get some local Kerala sarees and some silk sarees too and we got the perfect shop for that in the mall.
Experience with Holiday Inn Kochi:
The hotel had a good location and everything else about the hotel was good too. Great rooms, Good food, and a good swimming pool. Unfortunately, I personally had a very bad experience with the pool manager who was the rudest person I have ever met, but the hotel manager made up for his rude behavior by being super nice, she was so sweet that she especially came to my room for apologizing and even sent me a sorry pastry. Overall, my stay at Holiday Inn Kochi was comfortable, but if you ever get a chance to visit the hotel, make sure to stay away from the local staff as they tend to be rude and not willing to listen.
